Highlight #84

Hey y'all, Today is MOVIE REVIEW MONDAY! my selection today is one I'm almost sure you've all seen, but for lack of any other recommendable film, I now present, Sands of Iwo Jima. first released in 1949 in black and white of course, and featuring cameo appearances from three of the actual men who raised the flag on mount Suribachi, Sands of Iwo Jima is a classic film with some classic lines in it. And so, I now bring forth Allan Dwan's

Sands of Iwo Jima
Staring Cast: John Wayne (John M. Stryker), John Agar (pfc Peter Conway), Adele Mara (Allison Bromley)

Supporting Cast: Forest Tucker (pfc. Al Thomas), Wally Cassell (pfc. Benny Regazzi), Arthur Franz (cpl. Robert Dunne)

Directed by: Allen Dwan

Written by: Harry Brown, James Edward Grant

What's it rated?: Not Rated (I give it PG for violence)

Synopsis: a squad of Marines under the command of the tough, hard, and sometimes cruel Sgt. John M. Stryker, learn the skills they need to take part in one of the bloodiest battles in the pacific theater during WWII, The battle of Iwo Jima.

My Take: Although a cool movie, it is very old and thus, quite cheesy in quite a few places, for example, Pfc. Conway meets Allison Bromley at a dance and, of course, they fall in love. Like... two visits later, they get married... wha? but aside from the typical old-movie-romance scenes, this makes for an enjoyable film all round, not really worth watching repeatedly, but every once in a while... sure, why not.

The story is kinda' week, and it's hard to remember who's who throughout the entire movie. Pretty well the only people easy to remember are the stars and Benny Regazzi.

Story: 5 out of 10

Action: 7 out of 10

Overall: 6 out of 10

Well that concludes another MOVIE REVIEW MONDAY, be sure to tune in next time for another review, and look for even more to come in future.

Good review, Graydon.
I've got a couple of review requests for you:
Father Goose starring Cary Grant
and
The Man who Knew too Much starring Jimmy Stewart and directed by Alfred Hichcock.

If you haven't seen these movies yet, you need to! They are some of my favorites, and I would enjoy getting your take on them.

Sure thing Sam, but I'm afraid I won't be able to review those until next week (at least) because we borowed a bunch of movies from the library and we want to watch them all before we have to take them back this week.

Anyway, thanks for the recomendation, I'll look into those films!

-Graydon :-)

P.S. I could do "the man who knew to much" right away because we do have it, but I'll have to weasel it into our tight movie-watching schedual first :-)
